Follow these steps in order to complete your Student Visa application.
Valid Passport
Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay, with at least 2 blank pages.
Biometric Passport Photos
2 recent biometric photos (35 × 45 mm, neutral expression, light grey/white background).
Tip: Ensure photos meet ICAO biometric standards. German embassies reject non-compliant photos without exception.
University Admission Letter (Zulassungsbescheid)
Official admission letter from a recognised German university showing your name, course title, and start date.
Tip: A provisional admission letter (vorläufige Zulassung) is accepted at most embassies while you await the final letter.
Blocked Account (Sperrkonto) — €11,904/year
Proof of €11,904 (€992/month) deposited in a German blocked account. Released in monthly instalments after arrival.
Tip: Open your Sperrkonto as early as possible — it can take 2–4 weeks. Fintiba and Expatrio offer the fastest digital setup.
Travel Health Insurance
Valid travel health insurance (minimum €30,000 coverage) for the full visa duration, until statutory enrollment in Germany.
Tip: German statutory health insurance (GKV) only starts after university enrollment. You need travel insurance to cover the gap period.
Completed National Visa Application Form
Signed national visa application form (Antrag auf Erteilung eines nationalen Visums), completed in full.
Tip: Complete the form at the German Foreign Office portal and print it. Write 'N/A' for any non-applicable fields — do not leave blanks.
Academic Transcripts & Certificates
Certified copies of all qualifications: secondary school leaving certificate, bachelor's degree (if applying for master's), and full transcripts.
Tip: Documents not in German or English require certified translations. Only use sworn translators (beeidigte Übersetzer).
Motivation Letter
1–2 page letter explaining your choice of university, program, and future career plans in relation to your studies.
Tip: Be specific — connect your prior studies to your German program. Generic letters raise suspicion at the embassy.
APS Certificate (Academic Evaluation Centre)
Certificate confirming the authenticity of your academic documents. Mandatory for nationals of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Egypt applying to German universities.
Tip: Apply for your APS certificate before you even apply to a university — it takes 4–6 weeks and is required to get an embassy appointment.
