Step-by-Step Application Timeline
Follow these steps in order to complete your UK Student Visa application.
Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
A unique reference number from your UK university confirming your student place. Required to apply — you cannot start without it.
Tip: CAS is valid for 6 months. Apply for your visa within this window. Your university assigns it — you cannot get it yourself.
Proof of Funds
Enough money to pay outstanding course fees plus living costs: £1,334/month in London, £1,023/month elsewhere, for up to 9 months.
Tip: Funds must have been in your account continuously for 28 days before your visa application date. A sudden large transfer will be flagged.
Secure English Language Test (SELT) — min. B2
UK Visas-approved SELT from providers such as IELTS for UKVI or LanguageCert. Minimum B2 CEFR level required.
Tip: Book IELTS for UKVI, not standard IELTS — they are different tests. Standard IELTS will result in a visa refusal.
Valid Passport
Current valid passport or equivalent travel document.
Tuberculosis (TB) Test Certificate
TB test from a UKVI-approved clinic is mandatory for applicants from India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia, and many other countries.
Tip: Book your TB test at least 4–6 weeks before your visa appointment — approved clinics can be busy.
